All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  April 11th at 12:15 PM for the RECORD 52 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in March, 2023 as well as the 5 other people who had died in February, 2023 but had still gone unrecorded last month.   Zoom info below.

The 52 people who died “without fixed abode” in March along with the 5 others now added to February's total (44+5) make the first quarter of this year already 17.4% worse than even last year (149 deaths vs 123 deaths last year in the first quarter) and nearly 3x worse than the death toll in 2019 when 52 people had died "without fixed abode" in the first three months of that year.

Yet, it perhaps could have been worse.  The cold weather shelters, full (in Fullerton it was operating at at 120% capacity), almost certainly saved some lives.  And there has been significant push to get the fentanyl antidote Narcan on the streets to counteract overdoses.

It was also a particularly wet winter this year.  

All that said, a record 52 people died "without fixed abode" in OC last month, and a record 149 people died here this winter.  

We simply need to do better.

   All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  Aug 8th at 12:15 PM for the 47 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in July, 2023 as well as the 1 other person who had died in June, 2023 but had still gone unrecorded last month.   Zoom info below. The 48 person death toll continues the sad record breaking pace for the year.  All told, 308 people "without fixed abode" have already died in the County this year, a number 10% higher than the then record breaking 288 people who had died last year at this point in time.   If things do not change, then 528 people "without fixed abode will have died in the County by the end of the year an equivalent of 9.2% of the County's homeless population (counted to be 5718 in the last PIT Count conducted in January 2022) having died in this County by the end of the year.    All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  Oct 10th at 12:15 PM for the 51 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in August, 2023 as well as the 2 other people who had died in previous months but had still gone unrecorded until now.   Zoom info below. The 53 person death toll continues the sad record breaking pace for the year.  All told, exactly 400 people "without fixed abode" have already died in the County this year, with three months to go.   If things do not change, then 533 people "without fixed abode will have died in the County by the end of the year an equivalent of 9.3% of the County's homeless population (counted to be 5718 in the last PIT Count conducted in January 2022) having died in this County by the end of the year.
