Meet the Candidates for Fullerton City Council and Local Candidate Forums -- Sept 21 - Oct 1

Dear Parishioners:

While much attention is given to the National Election, three of Fullerton's five City Council seats are up for election this November 3rd, including seats for the 1st and 4th Districts, almost entirely within the boundaries of St. Philip Benizi parish and the 2nd District includes many of our parishioners as well.

The decisions made by the Fullerton City Council in the coming years, in the context of the COVID-19 crisis and its aftermath, will have great impact on all our lives.  As such it will be imperative, especially in the poorer 4th district where many of our parish families rent, that you be confident that the representatives that you elect hear you.

But even as we will be inviting you to formulate questions for our local candidates and express your hopes to them for our parts of the city in the coming years, it is also important that you learn who these candidates are, and what positions they have at last up until now staked out.

So then ...

The Candidates for the Fullerton City Council (listed alphabetically by first name) are:

1st District: Andrew Cho, Fred Jung

2nd District: Chuck SargeantFaisal QaziMackenzie Chang and Nick Dunlap

4th District: Aaruni Thakur and Bruce Whitaker

The Fullerton Observer has provided profiles of the candidates, as well as their responses five basic questions that the Observer asked of them.

Notes here:

(1) Of the eight candidates for the three City Council Seats, only one is an incumbent, Bruce Whitaker, running for the 4th District seat.

(2) As of now, only one candidate, Aaruni Thakur, also running for the 4th District has a Spanish language page on his website.

(3) There have been / will be THREE local candidate forums (below) during this time to allow voters to better understand what the candidates stand for.

(4) We will also be performing a parish-wide exercise of asking you to formulate questions and express your hopes for your parts of the city in the coming years, which we will mail to all the candidates in the coming weeks.
