Petition in favor of a Three Month Extension of Fullerton's Safe Parking Program

The Tri Parish/Diocesan Homeless Collaborative invites you to put your Faith into Action

We are looking for signature from Fullerton residents in support on extending the Safe Parking program in Fullerton to help buy us time to negotiate a regional contract.

The Sccure Parking program, offered since the beginning of this year, located in an excellent location near the Fullerton Train Station has been a great success in helping the most vulnerable in our city. And there are efforts to extend this program to other parts of the county.

Due to COVID-19, and our efforts to keep everyone safe, all signatures will be presented to at the next city council meeting by a Tri Parish leader along with the letter below:

Mayor Fitzgerald, council members

First of all, the TRI PARISH HOMELESS COLLABORATIVE salutes you for your development and support of the first SAFE PARKING program in Orange County. Your six month report highlights the success of the program and importantly that it was a good neighbor to the businesses and neighbors adjacent to it. We further welcome your selection of Pathways of Hope to serve as the current operator.

To build off the excellent work you have done, we are supportive of the Pathways and city staff initiative to develop a north SPA regional safe parking program. We have reached out to Supervisor Doug Chaffee to engage north SPA city managers to enlist their programmatic and financial support and to seek county funding as well.

Given the horrific economic impact of the COVID 19 pandemic, we are encountering more families losing their apartments, more people living in their vehicles - many while trying to hold onto employment. SAFE PARKING is needed now more than ever before.

We respectfully request that you extend your contract with Pathways of Hope, for a minimum of three months. This will afford Pathways, Supervisor Chaffee, city staff and ourselves time to review Pathways thoughtful proposal and budget with neighboring cities, without an interruption of the program.

Our TRI PARISH COLLABORATIVE will continue to financially support the sanitation services and assist SAFE PARKING clients with gas cards, bus passes, critical car repairs, tags and access to the pantry resources of our three parishes.

Thank you.
