Did you know that the second leading cause of deaths among teens is suicide?


 Join the SPB Youth team in our efforts to fight suicide, and raising awareness.

How? By supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention mission- to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide!

We have Registered and created a team to participate in this year’s Orange County Out of the Darkness Experience which will be held on October 24th.

In conjunction of this event, they have also stated a challenge which launched today-Monday, August 3rd and will end on Sunday September 13th

The challenge is designed to raise awareness and build community while taking action to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by stepping up your self care routine.  Whether that means walking, cycling, baking, or making tik tok videos, lets go on a wellness journey together!

First: Register for the October 24th Out of the Darkness Experience, Next: you will need to download the Kilter App either on the apple store or google play, join the Western AFSP division team to start tracking your points.

The challenge consists of completing daily activity that will earn you points. By doing something every day that makes you feel good, you can be part of the fight against suicide.

ACTIVITIES CAN INCLUDE:

  • Fitness activities like walking, running, biking, pilates
  • Self-care activities like reading, writing, coloring, dancing
  • Receiving donations to your Out of the Darkness fundraising page
  • Mindful minutes including meditation, stretching, reflecting
  • Checking in on someone and having a #RealConvo
  • Anything you are comfortable doing!

Interfaith Prayer Service on Zoom, Tues, April 9th at 12:15 PM for the 38 People "Without Fixed Abode" who died in March 2024 in OC

  All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday, April 9th at 12:15 PM for the 33 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in March, 2024 as well as the 1 other who died in January, but whose death was recorded only now.  Zoom  info below. The death count for the first three months of the year stands at 120, last year (2023) it stood at 151, two years ago (2022) it was 123.  So it remains an improvement over last year.  However, in the years prior, the death rate was significantly lower still 100 for 2021, 66 for 2020, 52 for 2019.  During the same period of time, by the federally mandated PIT counts, the number of people who found themselves homeless was about the same or higher than it is now.  So despite declining from last year, the death rate among those who find themselves homeless in OC remains higher than it was in the recent past.
