All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  May 9th at 12:15 PM for the 34 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in April, 2023 as well as the 2 additional people who had died in March, 2023 but had still gone unrecorded last month.   Zoom info below.

The 34 person death toll for April marks a significant decrease from the record count of 54 people who had died last month and even the 41 person death toll for April 2021.  

The weather finally improved last month.  The County implemented a quite aggressive Narcan distribution program, to make the antidote to Fentanyl available to the public, and there appeared to be change in the OC jails release policy significantly lowering the number of former inmates being released in the middle of the night when virtually everything is closed.

Still, the death toll for April in 2020 and 2021 were 34 and 32, so comparable to this year's numbers.  And in April 2019, the number of deaths 19.    

Still any improvement needs should be encouraged.

   All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  Aug 8th at 12:15 PM for the 47 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in July, 2023 as well as the 1 other person who had died in June, 2023 but had still gone unrecorded last month.   Zoom info below. The 48 person death toll continues the sad record breaking pace for the year.  All told, 308 people "without fixed abode" have already died in the County this year, a number 10% higher than the then record breaking 288 people who had died last year at this point in time.   If things do not change, then 528 people "without fixed abode will have died in the County by the end of the year an equivalent of 9.2% of the County's homeless population (counted to be 5718 in the last PIT Count conducted in January 2022) having died in this County by the end of the year.    All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday,  Oct 10th at 12:15 PM for the 51 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in August, 2023 as well as the 2 other people who had died in previous months but had still gone unrecorded until now.   Zoom info below. The 53 person death toll continues the sad record breaking pace for the year.  All told, exactly 400 people "without fixed abode" have already died in the County this year, with three months to go.   If things do not change, then 533 people "without fixed abode will have died in the County by the end of the year an equivalent of 9.3% of the County's homeless population (counted to be 5718 in the last PIT Count conducted in January 2022) having died in this County by the end of the year.
