IMPORTANT NOTICE: We are suspending reception of Communion on the Tongue at our Parish until further notice




Dear Parishioners,

After receiving numerous complaints from Parishioners during the past week expressing concern that there is no safe way to offer communion on tongue, and after sober discussion of the matter within our Servite Community serving at St. Philip Benizi Parish, as a Community we have decided to SUSPEND RECEPTION OF THE BODY OF CHRIST ON THE TONGUE at St. Philip Benizi Parish until further notice.

I understand that this may initially pain a number of our Parishioners.  However the number of Parishioners who have expressed fear of receiving communion afterward someone has received on the tongue is _also_ non-inconsequential and arguably larger than the number who are receiving communion now on the tongue.

So I ask everyone to please respect this decision and to understand that it has been taken for the sake of the Common Good and preserving calm in the Parish at a time when many fear what will come next.

Christ remains with us.  We are asked to act prudently in Christ's name for the sake of all.

Interfaith Prayer Service on Zoom, Tues, April 9th at 12:15 PM for the 38 People "Without Fixed Abode" who died in March 2024 in OC

  All are invited to a Zoom Interfaith Memorial Prayer Service on Tuesday, April 9th at 12:15 PM for the 33 people who died "Without Fixed Abode" in OC in March, 2024 as well as the 1 other who died in January, but whose death was recorded only now.  Zoom  info below. The death count for the first three months of the year stands at 120, last year (2023) it stood at 151, two years ago (2022) it was 123.  So it remains an improvement over last year.  However, in the years prior, the death rate was significantly lower still 100 for 2021, 66 for 2020, 52 for 2019.  During the same period of time, by the federally mandated PIT counts, the number of people who found themselves homeless was about the same or higher than it is now.  So despite declining from last year, the death rate among those who find themselves homeless in OC remains higher than it was in the recent past.
