"I Still have a Dream" SPB Youth-meets this week!!

What a weekend.  Like many of us, I’ve been in deep thought about what’s happening around us today that is causing so much pain to many on so many different levels.

Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost-birth of the Church.  As the words “Come Holy Spirit Come” came into my heart “Immediately the next words that came to mind as I started to prepare to hear the Gospel were “Renew the Face of the Earth”.  While Fr Sebastian proclaimed the Gospel, Images of that moment when the disciples were hiding behind closed doors in fear of the Jews- came to mind, except it wasn’t the disciples and Jews.  It was an image of my black brothers and sisters in Christ.  The Jews although faces were not clear, were the people who continue to judge them, prosecute them, and who cause pain both physical and emotional-and my heart broke.

I wondered, have times not changed? We apparently haven’t learned our lesson.  History is starting to repeat itself.  That same fight that Martin Luther King Jr stated, is still going on today.  It may be different, but not really. The war is not over.  How can we fix this, what is going thru the minds of our young people, when hate, prejudice, and violence is in their faces-and again I say to myself “Come Holy Spirit and Renew the Face of the Earth!!

As Jesus appeared to his disciples and said” Peace be with you” I was able to find my breath again and peace entered my heart.  We were not abandoned; we were not left orphans. God is with us always.  He sent the very essence of His love thru the Holy spirit to be with us.  To give us courage.  To go out into the nations and make disciples and spread his good news of mercy and love.

Dr Martin Luther King once said “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” Violence is not the answer, but we can thru the power of the Holy spirit stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We will be meeting this week to reflect and talk about what that will look like for us.  How can we stand together?  What cans teens do to take steps towards fostering kindness and respect that will ignite positive change in our world today?

BLAST will meet tonight from 5:30-7pm and our High School Youth group will meet this Wednesday from 7-8:30pm.
